So last Tuesday I shared the blog ‘My damage limitation plan for the festive fortnight’. I posted this because I wanted to see if I could enjoy the festive season without doing too much damage to my health or fitness level. As I am now a week into the plan I thought I would post a quick update on my progress. For anyone who didn’t catch the blog, the festive fortnight damage limitation plan had a clear goal – to enjoy every minute of the Christmas period and still wake up on January 4th weighing less than 12st 10lbs and with a body fat measurement of 14.5% or better.
To achieve this goal I set myself five rules, which were:
- Complete every training session of my festive fortnight training plan
- Eat clean on every day that I train
- Drink at least three litres of water every day
- Eat and drink guilt free on the 24th, 25th and 26th
- Allow myself one cheat meal on New Year’s Eve and one on New Year’s Day
So far I have done pretty well at sticking to these rules, only slipping up a couple of times. With Rule One I have only missed one training session, the RPM class on the 22nd. I was unable to make it because I had to work late due to a client emergency.
With Rule Two I have had mixed success, of the four days that I was due to train on I have only ate cleanly twice. The food I have ate on the two unclean days was not terribly unhealthy but I slipped up so those days have a black mark against them.
Rule Three has been the one that I have struggled with most. My water intake from the 24th to the 26th was shocking. The only drinks I consumed were Coke Zero, coffee or red wine. However yesterday I got right back on track, drinking 3.5 litres of water throughout the day.
The fourth rule was the easiest to stick too, I ate and drank with no guilt whatsoever and I believe that was due to the hard work I put in on the preceding three days. Although the days leading up to my birthday were not perfect I did resist a lot of birthday cake and Christmas treat temptation!
So with seven days left of my plan where am I in terms of my goal? Well I have definitely enjoyed every minute so far and my weight and body fat have not suffered too much. This morning my body stats were 12 stone 12.6 pounds and 15.7% body fat. That means I need to lose 2.7 pounds and 1.2% body fat over the next week.
I don’t think that is unachievable and with a little more discipline, lots more water and a little luck I will wake up on the 4th of January having hit my targets.
