Rested and ready to go again!

IMG_7822Hello! First up I would like to apologise for not posting in a little while. Two weeks ago I headed off to sunny Dubai with Mrs Every_Third_Day for a bit of rest and relaxation after a crazy first four months of 2016. As soon as I got back I was straight back into it at work and before I knew it I was waking up this morning without posting in two weeks. So having had a break from work and an unplanned break from blogging I thought this post was a good opportunity to look at what I have coming up over the next couple of months.

IMG_7877My 100-mile bike ride is just 49 days away

If you have been following my blog for a while you will know that one of my three goals for 2016 is to complete a 100-mile bike ride in less than six hours. Well the ride is now just 49 days away and that scares me a little. I went out for a training ride yesterday and another one this morning and right now I don’t feel ready to complete a 100-mile ride. However I do have seven weeks to get myself ready and I am going to do everything I can to make sure that I am in the best possible shape come July 3rd.

Body composition and general health

As I stepped on the scales after my Dubai holiday I feared the worst. I’d eaten pretty well all holiday but on the last couple of days I slipped a little. I couldn’t resist a trip to The Cheesecake factory and if you’ve ever been you will know that the portion sizes are incredibly generous. However despite indulging in some seriously good (if a little unhealthy) cheesecake I returned from Dubai in pretty good shape. The one area that requires a little work is my body fat, I haven’t made any progress with this over the last couple of months and that is down to poor nutrition. In the context of what I am trying to achieve in 2016 my current body composition is not a disaster but I do need to tighten things up nutritionally if I am going to achieve my goals.

Reducing my handicap

Another of my goals for 2016 is to reduce my golf handicap to 24, as things stand I have already knocked off one shot so I am 25% of the way there. I am not going to be playing a huge amount over the next two months as I concentrate on my 100-mile bike ride but that gives me the opportunity to really work on improving a couple of technical things. I had a lesson yesterday to identify why I have been pulling my long irons and my coach Ben said it was down to my grip. He has given me a new grip to work on and that is going to be the focus of my range sessions for the next two months.

99 Days of Positivity

If you read my blog 99 problems but a smile ain’t one you will know that I am currently carrying out a little personal experiment. I am trying to discover if finding something positive to celebrate every single day helps make you a happier and more positive person. Today is the 23rd day of the project and I can honestly say that I am feeling much more positive and I have also noticed that I am not letting the small things get to me as much. Now that might be down to the fact that I’ve just had a great holiday but in the spirit of being more positive I going to say it is down to focussing on the good things in my life more than the negative ones.

So there you have it, my first blog in a few weeks but as I sit at my kitchen table adding the finishing touches I feel like this is the start of a new chapter for Every_Third_Day. Good things are around the corner and I can’t wait to discover them!

Thanks for reading
