So I am now four days into my 40 day challenge and yesterday I faced my first real test. If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen that last night I went bouldering for the first time. I am not going to lie, when I woke up this morning muscles I didn’t know I had ached but I loved the experience and will definitely try it again. It is a great example of how a sport can test you both mentally and physically. You need the physical strength and flexibility to manoeuvre your body across the wall but equally important is having the mental dexterity to work out where you should place you foot or hand next. Frustratingly there was one particular climb I couldn’t conquer and I really want to go back and do it.
As much fun as bouldering was the thing that gave me greatest pleasure last night was making a healthy choice at Nando’s. It may seem like a strange thing to say but the one part of my fitness journey that I have struggled with most is my nutrition. Far too often my good work at the gym is undone by bad food choices. I love food and have very little willpower went it comes to eating out which is a nightmare combination! So as we headed into Nando’s last night I knew I had to fight the urge to order a whole chicken and a couple of sides.
As I sat reading the menu I thought about how good I had been for the first 68 hours of my 40 day challenge and vowed not to mess it up. Luckily for me all my friends wanted to order quickly as they were really hungry so I didn’t get time to dwell on the menu. This meant no time to contemplate what delicious temptations there were, instead I just went for something simple and straight forward. So what did I order? Well I went for a grilled chicken breast burger with a side of houmous, a delicious blend of carbs and protein!
I have only completed four days of my challenge but already I have managed a couple of small wins and that has left me feeling pretty good. When I hit the gym at 6:30 tomorrow morning there is going to be a big smile on my face!
