Alice Liveing – Clean Eating Alice

Last year I started a series called ‘Inspirational Individuals’ and the purpose of those blogs was to talk about people who I admire and the reasons they inspire. I really enjoyed writing them as it gave me a chance to look at why I found them so inspiring. This year I have renamed the series to ‘Individuals that inspire me’ (sounds better I think) and the first person to feature in this series is Alice Liveing, also known as Clean Eating Alice.

Alice is a phenomenon, her Instagram feed has changed the way people view healthy food, she is a two time best selling author and is the current cover star of Women’s Health magazine. She is a source of inspiration for her 480,000 Instagram followers and in my opinion someone who should be considered a role model for anyone looking to making positive changes in their life. In this blog I explore the three reasons why I find Alice such an inspiration and why I advocate everyone buying her two books, they are brilliant!


The first reason I find Alice so inspirational and I am sure a lot of her followers can associate with this, is that her story is real. She has been through tough times and emerged healthier and more importantly happier because of it. She hasn’t shied away from showing images of how she looked prior to changing her lifestyle and I believe that is a big part of her appeal. Anyone looking for a health and fitness role model doesn’t need to look further than Alice. She is living proof that by committing to a plan and being consistent you can your life. I have always struggled to maintain a balanced relationship with food, I have a very sweet tooth and love to binge on sugary treats. However in 2017 I want to reset the relationship I have with food and Alice’s honesty inspires me to keep persevering.

Her photos have changed the way people view healthy food

Before embarking on her lifestyle change Alice used to have an unhealthy relationship with food and viewed herself negatively. However as she began to share her recipes on Instagram she found support from others who were looking for healthy and nutritious meal ideas. Her Instagram feed is the stuff of legend. Below is a just a quick snapshot of some of the amazing food she shares.


Alice has inspired me to look at healthy food as pleasurable experience rather than something boring that I have to eat to stay fit. By making food look this good, she has got people excited about cooking meals that are healthy. In her book ‘The Body Bible’ she says

“It’s about eating nutrient-dense, whole foods to create, nourish and fuel a healthy body and mind.”

I have no doubt that there are hundreds of thousands of people across the UK who have changed their attitude towards cooking healthy food because of Alice and I personally find that hugely inspiring.

Her ethos is simple

Alice openly admits that before she changed her lifestyle she tried lots of fad diets and when they failed she hated the way she looked. Instead of preaching about a specific diet/fitness plan she just encourages them to adopt an idea. Her ethos is simple and straightforward, there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to being healthy. It is about making sustainable changes to what you put into your body and how you exercise. Alice is a little over five foot, a Personal Trainer and leads a life that is completely different to mine. However her ethos IS something I can use and that is very inspiring. For example after I bought her first book I started cooking more healthy meals after work instead of reaching for less healthy but easier options like pasta and chicken. In a world that is becoming more complex by the day, I believe that a simple and sustainable approach is exactly what people need to improve the health.

I have only just bought her second book so this might change but right now is has to be the Mexican-style Spicy Sweet Potato and Chicken bowl.
