It’s official, I am now a member of the Fitbit family! Through a slightly bizarre set of circumstances I am now the proud owner of a Fitbit Flex. Despite having a passion for fitness I have only ever owned one activity tracker before and that was the first generation of the Nike Fuelband. I loved it but the ‘Fuel’ measurement never really worked for me. It seemed a bizarre thing to measure your activity in, why not calories burnt? That said trackers and wearable tech have come a long way in the last few years and now there are a plethora of them. Since Christmas I have been checking a few out, the Under Armour Band and Apple Watch Nike+, in particular. However with a baby on the way nursery furniture and other baby stuff has been where my money has been going.
So having been gifted a Fitbit Flex by a family member I’m now really excited about the positive impact that wearing an activity tracker could have on my health. In fact I don’t think there could be a better time for me to test out a Fitbit. With my first baby due to arrive at any moment, the next few months will be crazy busy! Trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle is going to be a big challenge. I will have less time to train, a lot less sleep plus I’ve to learn how to be a dad! I really can’t wait to be a father and I want to set a healthy example for my child.
I am not naïve, I know that over the coming months my motivation will be tested. There will be times when I’ve had no sleep and all I want to do is lie on the sofa and eat junk food. However I am hoping that is where my new Fitbit Flex is going to help out and motivate me to make the right choice. Whether that is making time to go for a run, cook a healthy meal or simply drink lots more water. Rather than wait for the baby to arrive, the Fitbit Flex is being put to the test from today! For the next 60 days I will be obsessive about wearing my Fitbit Flex and entering my nutritional information into the app, I want to see what impact tracking everything has on my health!
